The 2nd annual Hammerfest fueled by BOLT24 is coming to Birmingham on St. Patrick’s Day weekend, March 14-15, 2020. Twenty USA CRITS D1 professional cycling teams from all over the US will be racing through the streets of the Pepper Place District in downtown Birmingham. This exciting, fast-paced criterium racing is not just for the pros. Amateurs and juniors will be tackling the same course and putting their skills to the test.
This FREE special weekend includes something for all ages with the Hammerfest Kids Zone, Community Hour, Alabama Power Lil’ Shamrock fun ride where youngsters can show their St. Patrick’s Day spirit and decorate their bicycles or tricycles, St. Pawtrick’s Day Parade, best-dressed contests for prizes, food trucks and more. Don’t miss all the festivities at the restaurants and bars in the Pepper Place District.
Racing begins at 11 am and should conclude around 8 pm on Saturday, March 14th in the Pepper Place District. The women’s D1 pro race kicks off at 5:05 pm followed by the men’s pro D1 race at 6:30 pm. The Community Hour starts at 4:15 pm. The Hammer Ride begins at 9 am on Sunday, March 15th and is a paid, supported training ride. Click here for the Saturday racing schedule.
Parking is located outside the closed perimeter of the course. There is ample street parking in and around Pepper Place between 1st and 5th Avenues South as well as around the closed perimeter. The closed perimeter extends from 1st Avenue S to 3rd Avenue S and 27th St S to 34th St S.

The Community Hour features something for everyone and begins at 4:15pm with the AMBUCS kids ride. Bring your family, friends and pups to party around the Leprechaun Loop. Run, walk, dance, or ride around the closed racing course while wearing your St. Patty’s Day attire for prizes. Free registration begins at 3:00pm at the kid’s zone on 2nd Ave S. at the Dr. Pepper Building.
The Hammerfest Kids Zone will include inflatables, crafts, bike courses, bike safety/maintenance information as well as a place to decorate bikes with all the leprechaun and green gear for St. Patrick’s Day. Kid’s will have the opportunity to ride on the crit course during the community hour. All children who check in at the kid’s zone will be entered to win a free bicycle courtesy of Trips For Kids.
Ride your bike to the event and park at the bike valet located in the Dr. Pepper Building parking lot along 2nd Avenue South.

The best viewing areas will be along 2nd Avenue South by the start/finish line between 28th Street South and 29th Street South.
