The inaugural Hammerfest fueled by Gatorade Zero is coming to Birmingham on St. Patrick’s Day weekend, March 16-17, 2019. Fifteen USA CRITS D1 professional cycling teams from all over the US will be racing through the streets of the Lakeview District in downtown Birmingham. This exciting, fast-paced criterium racing is not just for the pros. Amateurs and juniors will be tackling the same course and putting their skills to the test.
This FREE special weekend includes something for all ages with the Thomas Waters State Farm Kids Zone, Regions Bank Community Hour, Alabama Power Lil’ Shamrock fun ride where youngsters can show their St. Patrick’s Day spirit and decorate their bicycles or tricycles, a dog parade, best-dressed contests for prizes, food trucks and more. Don’t miss all the festivities at the restaurants and bars in the Lakeview District.
Racing begins at 10 am and should conclude around 6 pm on Saturday, March 16th in the Lakeview District. The women’s D1 pro race kicks off at 3:45 pm followed by the men’s pro D1 race at 5:15 pm. The Regions Bank Community Hour starts at 3 pm. The Hammer Ride presented by Brannon Honda begins at 9 am on Sunday, March 17th and is a paid, supported training ride. Parking is located outside the closed perimeter of the course. There is ample street parking in and around Pepper Place between 1st and 5th Avenues South as well as around the closed perimeter. The closed perimeter extends from 5th Avenue S to Clairmont Ave and 27th St S to 31st St S.

The Regions Bank Community Hour features something for everyone and begins at 3pm with the AMBUCS kids ride. Bring your family, friends and pups to party around the Leprechaun Loop. Run, walk, dance, or ride around the closed racing course while wearing your St. Patty’s Day attire for prizes. Free registration begins at 2:30pm on the corner of 29th Street & 7th Ave S.
The Thomas Waters State Farm Kids Zone will include inflatables, crafts, bike courses, bike safety/maintenance information as well as a place to decorate bikes with all the leprechaun and green gear for St. Patrick’s Day.
Ride your bike to the event and park at the Lewis & Feldman bike valet located on the corner of 29th St & 7th Ave S.

The best viewing areas will be along 7th Avenue South by the start/finish line as well as on the corner of 28th St South and 6th Avenue South.
